European Day Of Languages!

I'm looking forward to the fast-approaching 'European Day of Languages'. :) Maxie Schneider and Birdie Newcomb have been busy putting together an event in SL to celebrate language learning. More specifics about this event are below. Please note that the following info was taken directly from www.SL-Festival.net.

Hope to see you there!

European Day Of Languages!

Mark your calendar: September 26 on Belle Isle!
Why this Festival of Languages?

September 26 - the European Day of Languages - celebrates the diversity of European languages and cultures. In SL, we make this day a Festival of Languages!

Most Europeans learn and use at least one "foreign" language at an early age when learning languages is easy, while Americans start late and don't use what they learned. To span this big gap (and the Big Pond), we've set the schedule when both groups are active: London time from 4pm to 10pm, which corresponds to 8am to 2pm SLT. Come to try out voice, meet people, announce a class or event, stand by your flag, watch the entertainment. On the other hand, if you'd like to make a formal presentation to an audience (slide show, performance piece, learning technique), we can arrange a time and a place in the schedule.
What will you find on Belle Isle?

At each country's booth, one may find language teachers presenting their offerings, SLURLs to language/culture islands, edtech tools to buy or offered free, multi-lingual translators, cultural artifacts, or whatnot. Practice your school learning with native speakers for a few minutes.

We encourage you also to show pride in your culture and language by sharing a freebie, a small object that symbolizes your national pride, to give away (with full permissions) so that others will have a souvenir to remember you.
Who should come?

Students, travelers, researchers, teachers, polyglots, exchange program participants, singers, clothing designers, artists, curiosity seekers, entertainers looking for an audience, businesses (yes, feel free to promote national products here on this special day).

If you don't intend to stay the whole six hours, here is the schedule for organized events (roughly by time zone), but feel free to drop by anytime:

* 8am SLT (4pm London) Orientation/Keynote
* 9am/5pm Russian/Baltic states/Finnish
* 10am/6pm Eastern Europe/Greek
* 11am/7pm Italian/German/Scandinavian
* 12 noon/8pm French/Belgian/Dutch
* 1pm/9pm English/Spanish/Portuguese.
